  • Overview

    Under the direction of the Laboratory Supervisor, the Laboratory Assistant is responsible for testing, accurate documentation of result and quality control of instruments and testing.

    This position may be assigned in any lab area(s).


    This is a part-time position.


    • Assists in all areas of the laboratory as needed to include specimen processing, data entry, initial and confirmation areas, and other procedures as applicable.
    • Prepares reagents and operates instruments as allowed.
    • Perform daily QC checks as directed
    • Print work lists and pull samples for testing.
    • Pulling of specimens for retesting.
    • Accessioning of specimens received into the laboratory from all areas including data entry of hand labels, bar-coding and pipetting of specimens.
    • Tasks are to be performed in such order as to continue the workload efficiency of the technologist at all times.
    • Perform send outs and banking.
    • Follow the laboratory’s procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses.
    • Follow laboratory’s quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance.
    • Follow the laboratory’s established quality assurance policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory’s established acceptable levels of performance.
    • Record quality control testing data on all testing performed on a daily basis.
    • Responsible for updating incoming staff of all pertinent information regarding current testing being performed.
    • Maintain personal and professional confidentiality at all times.
    • Testify in court to any testing procedures performed by self.
    • Assist in personnel shortages as needed.
    • Attend seminars and workshops when available.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    2. Must pass urinalysis drug test
    3. Must pass a criminal background check
    4. Must pass TB testing
    5. Must be able to obtain a Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card
    6. Must be eligible to work in the U.S. for any employer


    • Must be able to lift from floor to waist up to 20 pounds.
    • Must be able to read, write, and communicate fluently in English.
    • Must be able to give and receive verbal and written instructions.
    • Must possess the ability to utilize visual and auditory senses to complete all job duties as assigned.
    • Must be able to work in a typical office and laboratory environment.
